The european network for people-centered design of interactive technologies

About

Convivio is a Thematic network of researchers and practitioners from many backgrounds (computer science, human sciences, design, business) developing a broad discipline of human-centered design of digital systems for everday life.

Human-centered design encompasses not only the physical, cognitive and practical needs of the individual but also the broader social, emotional and cultural needs that make up a rich and satisfying life.
We are convinced of the pressing need to augment the technology development process: to draw on the skills and knowledge of many disciplines, and to focus it on the people whose lives will be shaped by it in order to decide what to design and how it should be designed to fit them well.

Develop persuasive rationales, case studies and demonstrators for the value of this approach in order to grow the discipline among professionals and decision-makers in ICT development at all levels.

For education and training:

Influence and support university and training curricula to grow the next generation of human-centred designers.

Thematic networks.

Thematic networks are an instrument of the Information Society Technologies Directorate of the European Union, designed to strengthen scientific and technological excellence on a particular research topic by integrating at European level the critical mass of resources and expertise needed to provide European leadership and to be a world force in that topic.
Each network has a mission to spread excellence beyond the boundaries of its partnership, with training being an essential component of this mission.
